Connect the Dots: Your Spring/Summer 2025 Wardrobe Just Got Spotted

If there’s one print taking over resortwear this season, it’s the joyful, ever-iconic polka dot. From New York to New Delhi, designers are bringing the playful print back in full force. And this time, it’s anything but retro kitsch.

We’re seeing a return to fashion with flair; goodbye quiet luxury, hello dopamine dressing. It’s all about mood-lifting prints, expressive textures, and just a hint of drama. Polka dots tick all those boxes and more.

    From the Runways to Reality

In the West, fashion houses like Moschino, Fendi, and Isabel Marant are showing dots in bold, theatrical ways; sheer dresses with oversized spots, deconstructed blazers, and unapologetically glam accessories.

But this isn’t just a Western fashion moment, it’s one we’re reinterpreting in South Asia, too. Indian designers like Masaba, Saaksha & Kinni, and Payal Singhal are turning to polka dots with a new lens; layering them on chiffon saris, boho co-ord sets, lehenga skirts, and even easy resortwear perfect for a Goa getaway or a destination mehendi.

    The New Mood: Playful Maximalism

Let’s be real, minimalism had its moment, but 2025 is all about bringing joy back to our wardrobes. Traditionally seen on tea dresses and vintage silhouettes, polka dots have long carried the DNA of prim-and-proper fashion. But this season, they’re hopefully doing a full 180. No longer just dainty or darling, dots are stepping out with attitude. Think sheer slip dresses from Conner Ives adorned with bold tonal circles or Bora Aksu’s layered tulle confections that romanticize retro without getting stuck in the past. Whether you’re brunching in Bandra or hitting up a rooftop party in Brooklyn, dots are giving us permission to dress loud, fun, and a little flirty again.

What’s exciting this time around is the versatility. You can wear them OTT with pearls and gloves à la 1950s, or with sneakers and a boxy blazer for a Gen Z edge. Want to desi it up? Throw on a mirror-work bindi, silver jhumkas, and a polka dot sari; instant vintage meets now.

    Celebrity-Backed & Dancefloor-Approved

Need more proof? Look no further than Dua Lipa, who recently stepped out in a strapless pink Valentino SS25 polka dot masterpiece, a dress that screams Chelsea nightclub circa 1981, reimagined for TikTok and front-row flashbulbs.

And then there was Priyanka Chopra Jonas, turning heads at the Met Gala in a sculptural white polka-dot gown by Olivier Rousteing for Balmain; a flawless nod to retro glamour with a refreshed edge.

A chic amalgamation of polka dot and bandhani print on a lehenga skirt, was also spotted on Alia Bhatt recently, paired with a matching headscarf.

Basically it’s safe to say; from runway to red carpet to real life, there’s no escaping the dot this season.
